The pine forests of the Rocky Mountains are beautiful when blanketed by fresh snow and lit by some stunning sunrise light. Unfortunately, sunrise is only about 90 seconds long, and we don't get snow anymore. All the vegetation is dead and brown, the wind chill is very unpleasant, the animals are hibernating or hiding, and commuting to and from work happens in the dark. Driving at night with astigmatism is torture. There is no beauty to be found. It's a prison. Siberia might be more pleasant.
Seasonal depression, they call it. Whatever it is, I never knew I had it until it stopped snowing in Colorado. I'd gladly trade the gloom of winter, and the heat of summer, for 9 months of autumn. September rules.
